Your Monthly Wellness Newsletter from Kiss Your Food
Hi Reader,
If your brain feels like it’s already bracing for the Thanksgiving food whirlwind…you’re not alone.
This week is busy.
You’ve got enough to think about without adding “optimal nutrient timing” to the list.
So I am NOT here to add more to your plate!
(I tried so hard to resist that pun, but I just couldn't! 🤣 I am still giggling about it!!)
If you want some guidance for getting through the holiday without feeling absolutely gross and overstuffed, here’s the simplest, sanest, science-backed tip I can offer:
Eat your fiber and protein first.
Seriously. That’s it.
A few bites of veggies + a few bites of turkey (or whatever protein shows up on your plate) before you dive into the stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes, or pie helps:
- slow digestion,
- blunt those wild glucose spikes, and
- keep you feeling steady instead of sleepy-gremlin-ish.
This is not about restriction or “earning your dessert.”
This is about starting in a way your body appreciates.
Then?
Eat the rest of your plate in whatever order brings you joy.
Have the pie. Use the real butter. Enjoy the people you’re with.
And if you do end up overeating a little?
Remember that you’re a human at a holiday meal, not a robot in a lab study.
One grounding breath.
A gentle walk if it feels good.
Lots of water.
Back to normal life tomorrow.
Wishing you a holiday that feels warm, calm, and delicious - in that order.
With epic amounts of gratitude and love,
Kate
